What Does LRSD Stand For and What does the LRSD Do?
LRSD stands for Long Range Surveillance Detachement. Which then is divided up into LRS (pronounced as Lurse) units. These LRS units are used to gather intelligence deep within hostile territories. Each team consists of a team leader, an assistant team leader, three observers, and a RATELO (Usually a 6-man team). The teams job is to obtain and report information about enemy forces. They can operate independently with little or no outside support. LRS teams are lightly armed and they are limited by the amount of weight that they can carry. All team members must be Ranger or Airborne qualified.
